Batavia is a village in and the county seat of Clermont County, OH, and is part of the Cincinatti metropolitan area. It is surrounded by Batavia Township.
The area was originally surveyed in 1788 by Captain Francies Minnis, John O’Bannon, Nicholas Keller, John Ormsley, and Archelus Price. The first official settler was Virginian Ezekiel Dimmitt in 1797. The Minnis Survey was purchased in 1807 and then platted in 1814 by George Ely. It may have been named after Batavia, New York. Clermont County’s seat moved from New Richmond to Batavia in 1824, leading to the incorporation of Batavia as a village in 1842.
The Tri-State Warbird Museum is located near the Clermont County Airport. It is a private, not-for-profit aviation museum that focuses on World War II aircraft. A period barracks exhibit also on display shows how the daily lives of those in aviation were at the time. The Golf Club at Stonelick Hills is a great place to go for golfing.
