One of the great villages of Brown County, OH, Mount Orab was a central hub of trade and commerce in the area when it was founded back in 1850. It is located about 12 miles from the county seat of Georgetown.
A local businessman named Samuel Fee founded the village, naming it after his son Orab. Some say the name Orab is derived from Mount Horeb, a place in the Hebrew Bible. The original land was granted to officers who had served in the Revolutionary War in the state of Virginia. It was part of the original Virginia Military Survey. It wasn’t until 1880 that Mount Orab became a fully incorporated village.
