Georgetown is a village in and the county seat of Brown County, Ohio, about 36 miles southeast of Cincinnati. It initially took its name from Georgetown, Kentucky.
The town was originally platted in 1819, but not long after the first settlers arrived, a post office started its operations in 1821. By 1846, the community had grown to over 800 residents. It grew further after that point, becoming known for being active in the tobacco trade, shipping tobacco all over the world. The county’s most significant crop was tobacco.
